The Whales have come back to Hawaii for the winter time as they give birth to their young and prepare them for the journey back to the cold waters off of Alaska. Ancient Hawaiians deeply admired the Humpback whale as a symbol of strength and peacefulness. We joined the “Premier Whale Watch & Lunch” tour presented by the Star of Honolulu.

The vessel departs from pier 8 at Aloha Tower. And features on board naturalists who provide detailed knowledge of the whales and can answer your questions as well as be on the lookout for whales. The vessel is tall with four walk around decks, including a 60’ high observation sun deck with a beautiful panorama view of the ocean! The view of Oahu’s south shore including all of Honolulu city and the epic Diamondhead from 20 miles out to see it pretty amazing even though it was a little voggy (volcanic fog) on that day.

scerenryIt wasn’t difficult to find whales as the staff constantly announced which direction we should look over the ship’s PA system. Besides watching the whales we also got to have culture lessons such as Hula, Ukulele and Lei making. Children also could get booklet of the ecology of whales and learn more about them from the naturalists. All ages can enjoy the tour.

If no whales are spotted, don’t be depressed, you can try it again for free. If you are easily seasick they provide natural seasickness medicine. They pick up from multiple hotels in Waikiki making it convenient to say aloha to some big humpback ways!
